Legal Resources, Politics, & Non-Profits

Get Involved

Americans for Safe Access is a great organization that makes it easy to get involved on a local level, and this is the organization to which I donate.

That’s not to say some of these other organizations might not suit you. Below are some of the “big guns.” Find a way to get involved that fits your needs and ideals. This is important stuff, let’s work together to get cannabis legalized nationwide, reform existing laws.

National & International Organizations

The Drug Policy Alliance
“Our supporters are individuals who believe the war on drugs must end. Together we work to ensure that our nation’s drug policies no longer arrest, incarcerate, disenfranchise and otherwise harm millions – particularly young people and people of color who are disproportionately affected by the war on drugs.”

Marijuana Policy Project (MPP)
mpp.org
“MPP and MPP Foundation envision a nation where marijuana is legally regulated similarly to alcohol, marijuana education is honest and realistic, and treatment for problem marijuana users is non-coercive and geared toward reducing harm.”  MPP gets it done at the legislative level. Formed in 1995, MPP is celebrating 20 years of changing laws.

“Criminal marijuana prohibition is a failure. Over 20 million Americans have been arrested for marijuana offenses since 1965. NORML believes that the time has come to amend criminal prohibition and replace it with a system of legalization, taxation, regulation, and education.” Norml is great for locating local legal resources and researching information about laws in your region. While not as effective at changing laws as MPP, Norml is probably the more widely known organization making serious strides forward in the fight for legalization.
LEAP
www.leap.cc
“LEAP envisions a world in which drug policies work for the benefit of society and keep our communities safer. A system of legalization and regulation will end the violence, better protect human rights, safeguard our children, reduce crime and disease, treat drug abusers as patients, reduce addiction, use tax dollars more efficiently, and restore the public’s respect and trust in law enforcement.” An International organization, LEAP is important because it’s run and supported by law enforcement and judicial system professionals who have firsthand experience dealing with people and communities impacted by the “war on drugs”.
