The Great Purge of 2017

Omgoodness, y’all. I just got an email from one of the people who followed this blog asking why I took the site down.

The answer: I did not, in fact, take this site down.

Back in January, I switched hosts without taking backups first, because I like to live dangerously.

Then I realized my export file wouldn’t actually import, and I had to pay GoDaddy an absurd amount of money to restore my site (BOO, HISS: they completely nuked all my installations the very second my plan expired and charged $300 to get the site back, after bringing them thousands upon thousands of dollars in client business…am I ranting? Maybe this is another story for another time). Anyhoo, I got the sites restored and then canceled the temp hosting, and boom! Immediately misplaced or deleted my XML backup file with all the post and page content. Not only this, but I managed to file all the word docs with those articles somewhere that is, today, a mystery to me. And, the icing on the cannabiscuit is this: my backup tool was sending database and file backups to my Dropbox…and every one of the backups was corrupted.

Look, what I’m saying is, I’d like to take this opportunity to blame my old web host, cloud storage provider, various plugin authors, and the entirety of the Republican party for this, because it’s a lot less irritating than taking accountability for being a web developer who’s made such a catastrophic series of n00b mistakes. Is it my fault, technically? Yes. Is it anyone else’s fault — technically — that I nuked my site in four different fashions? Maybe. Probably not. Why are you hassling me?

I smoked a bowl, and I’m feeling a little less volatile now. The short of it is, I haven’t added a new post to this site in about nine months because I was so annoyed with the magnitude of my failure that I kind of threw my hands up and decided inaction, pointing fingers, and self-pity was way easier than rewriting all the posts (I take my cues from our President). Additionally, the shakeup of 45’s victory and the subsequent appointment of AG Jeff “If You Smoke Weed You’re a Devil” Sessions made me feel a little uneasy about how publicly I was writing about cannabis, which was also the same time California legalized cannabis, which changed everything I knew about the laws and regulation about cannabis in my home state. With all this in mind, I was sort of shocked today when a friend inquired about the site being down, and decided it was time to give fewer shits and get this baby rolling again.

That brings us to the current situation. What I ended up with after the purge was quite a lot of images that were originally attached to my reviews, recipes, growing and baking tips, various incoherent rants, and potiquette lessons. I do have vague recollections of the content attached to these posts, so I’m going to attempt a forensic recreation of all the shiz I lost. Sounds like loads of fun, right? I don’t remember all the strain reviews I wrote, so there’s a good chance I’ll have to smoke all that weed again just to make sure I get it right. I’m willing to make that sacrifice again, for you, my enduring fans…and for science.

In the meantime, since there are only about ten people who were regularly reading this stuff in the first place, you can continue to catch me on facebook if you have questions, or need a product or strain recommendation.

Thanks for hanging in there with me. Here’s a link to the old coloring page that used to come with the mailing list signup, in case you find yourself at odds and ends with a box of crayons.

Love and bud to all my little sugarleaves. Fly high. See you ’round.
