Kiva Confections Review

Four Stars for Kiva

Kiva Chocolates, from the bars, to the chocolate covered espresso beans and blueberries, are some of the best on the market. Kiva also offers other confections, like their Petra Mints, a low dose option for light-weight needs, and fruit gummies.

4 selling points for Kiva chocolate products:

  1. Clearly and accurately labeled
  2. Effective and easy to split into doses
  3. A variety of tasty flavors
  4. Great packaging

Clear, Accurate Labeling

Petra Mints by KivaWhen you look at edibles these days, it seems that everything is really well-labeled. The truth is, there are still some companies out there selling what seem to be perfectly reputable products that either must be mislabeled, or are labeled using some sort of loophole that allows for deceptive packaging.

Kiva blueberries are 5mg THC each, and the physical and mental effects are consistent with my experience of what 5mg should feel like. While that may sound like an awfully ambivalent description, it’s something you’ll have to play out on your own, because everyone perceives intoxication and medication differently. Just trust that, if you’re new to edibles or looking for a consistent experience, you will find a very solid baseline in Kiva. Their Terra Bites were my personal entry into using edibles in a way that was meaningful.

Kiva offers these lovely little Petra mints, which come in at 2.5mg, perfect for people who are trying edibles for the first time, or for people who are really sensitive to a small amount of THC. While I have known people who are sensitive enough to get good and sleepy-stoned on 2.5mg of THC, it would be surprising to see someone have negative effects at this level (like nausea, paranoia).

Easily Split Into Doses

The mints and chocolate-covered blueberries/espresso beans come in 2.5 and 5mg doses.

The chocolate bars are also split into sections that can easily be broken, and are clearly labeled.

A Variety of Flavors

  • Kiva offers two flavors of the Petra mint, Moroccan Mint and Eucalyptus.
  • The Terra Bites come in chocolate-covered espresso bean or blueberry. I love the blueberries, which are pretty juicy and substantial, not your typical dried fruit.
  • The Kiva Chocolate Bars come in a wide range of flavors with both milk and dark chocolate, including Mint Irish Cream, Tangerine, Blackberry, Plain Dark and Milk Chocolate, Ginger, Vanilla Chai, and Espresso.
  • The Kiva Camino Gummies come in a variety of fruit flavors. I have not tried these, but I’m quite sure they’re delicious.

It’s not just the range of flavors that’s notable, but the quality of the chocolate and the sophistication of the flavors. For instance, the blackberry component of the Blackberry Dark Chocolate bar is more subtle than expected, doesn’t taste of a chemical fruit flavoring at all. It tastes as if real blackberry has been infused into the chocolate. The milk and dark chocolate are both slightly more brittle than a non-infused chocolate, which is expected, but are also creamy when they melt. You can taste the care that was put into developing these products.

Great Packaging

I mean, if you’re into good design…

Kiva has really beautiful packaging. While I know that packaging shouldn’t affect how I feel about an edible, it’s really nice to have product I don’t mind leaving out on my table. I don’t like looking at shitty design, and I don’t like labeling that’s difficult to read. These products really just check all my boxes.

Kiva is a gold standard edible company whose products I trust enough to recommend to anyone.

More About Kiva

From their website:

KIVA Confections creates cannabis infused confections and is one of the most recognized cannabis companies in California.

The company was born out of a need for an edible product that was potent, consistent, and enjoyable to consume. In early 2010 the cannabis edible market was desperately under-served; the products available were untested, unlabeled, and inconsistent in potency.

To solve this problem, founders Scott Palmer and Kristi Knoblich began exploring novel approaches to infusing cannabis into food. After visiting a local chocolatier, the lightbulb went off. Working with expert cannabis cultivators, certified analytics laboratories, and a lot of trial and error, KIVA was born.

To accompany the new product, the founders developed a mission statement that would go beyond simply delivering a better edible. It included a commitment to efficacy, food safety, and business integrity which continues today.

After 9 months of careful development, KIVA Confections was launched. Immediately consumers took notice and fell in love with the product for its certified potency, incredible taste and informative packaging.

Since then the company has grown to encompass over a dozen varieties of chocolate edibles, and now mints, with a loyal customer base throughout hundreds of dispensaries in CA, AZ, NV, IL, and HI. Our artisan confections have garnered multiple awards and recognition in the marketplace including eight Best Edible wins.

With over one hundred employees dedicated to quality, food safety and compassionate care, KIVA continues to redefine the edible cannabis category and lead the way in developing premium quality, great tasting products that deliver certified amounts of cannabis within a delicious, artisan-inspired chocolate recipe.
